Not Enough Americans Earning Degrees
A new report from the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce has found that not enough Americans are completing college to qualify for available jobs.
By 2018, there will be an excess of 3 million jobs in USA because of a lack of properly trained graduates, according to the report.
#1 - Health Care - Professional and Technical
Health care professional and technical jobs will require 95 percent of their workforce to have some college experience by 2018, which is more than any other career cluster, according to the Georgetown report. Many of these positions will go to applicants with an associate's degree.
"Registered nurses and health technologists will each grow by more than half a million jobs," the report said. "These occupations will lead occupational growth over the next decade and account for most of the growth in health care."

#2 - Education
Not surprisingly, the education field requires near universal college experience, with 93 percent of its workforce expected to have postsecondary qualifications by 2018. The report also noted that education leads all other industries in jobs that require a master's degree. Search for Education master's degree programs now.

#3 - Scientific, Technical, Engineering, Mathematic, and Social Sciences (STEM)
This technology-driven career cluster will require 92 percent of its specialized workforce to have college experience by 2018, according to the Georgetown report. Computer specialists alone account for more than 700,000 new jobs expected in the next eight years.

#4 - Community Service and the Arts
Community Service and the Arts can be broken into four main categories: art and design, sports and entertainment, communications, and counselors. Of the 5.2 million jobs the Georgetown report forecasts in this category in 2018, 92 percent will require college experience.

This broad-based career cluster encompasses everyone from accountants to human resource professionals and paralegals. By 2018, the Georgetown report forecasts that 91 percent of these jobs will be filled with professionals with at least some college experience. Bachelor's and master's, like an MBA, will be the most common credentials.
